Beginning Work on the First Town

Happy Monday!

At least....as happy as a Monday could be.

Rising World adventures continue! The most time consuming part of the project so far has been creating a foundation for the mining town at the base of the mountain range. To begin with, I had to use the scythe to clear all the tall grass. Next, I had to use the rake to make all the ground smooth and level. Then I had to use the rake to make a path that was slightly lower than the surrounding ground to be able to make a road. I worked on this in sections. I started with the left side first.

Then, I worked my way over to the right side and started the whole process over.

Once the whole area was finished, I started working on the road.

I hadn't yet discovered that I could switch between survival mode and creative mode using the console commands yet, so the road you see in the picture above is made from gravel blocks. I like the look of the gravel being painted on in creative mode, so I have to go back to the town area and destroy all the blocks before I can continue. I got impatient with it, so instead I went back to the island and started working on the road there.

I'm really happy with how this turned out! The hardest part about building the road across the island will be the bridge I'll have to make on either side of it. I started clearing out an area on south of the island where the bridge will meet the mainland.

I've been looking around for blueprints of bridges that other players have made, but all of them seem to be way to big. I'll have to build it myself. I have a feeling it's going to look awful....but! It will be a bridge, and that will have to do.

Welcome to my Blog!

Hi y'all!

Welcome to my blog! I've had to make a lot of changes to it since it is being re-purposed from an old blog that I abandoned. I'm excited to get started on it!

I love role playing in video games and I especially love how open world sandbox games really give you endless opportunities for this. Rising World in particular, created by a small German game development studio called JIW Games, has really allowed my imagination to go crazy. I love how players can take it down the route of making a modern city, a small medieval village, or even a simple primitive human trying to survive and just really make it their own.

I'm going to use this blog as a journal of sorts. The entries will detail the work I'm doing in the game to build a multi-village civilization. This is all just for fun, and it's meant to be an outlet for my creativity. It'll help me see just how far I've gone in creating this civilization.

I'm not sure how many villages I'd like to create and connect. It will depend on how much time and energy I can put into it. So far, I have an idea to create three separate villages, all tasked with providing resources unique to the areas in which they are built, and roads will be built connecting them all.

Here is a screenshot taken of the map which shows the area I'm going to begin building in:

The brown area that is cleared out in the lower right corner of the map is where the first town will be located. It's situated right at the base of a mountain range, and there are plenty of mines to explore there. This town will be responsible for mining resources and producing mining and farming equipment that they will trade with the farming village located further south on the map. This is the only town area that I have cleared so far. I will discuss in another post the steps I took to do this.

The lines of black dots you see on the map indicate where a road will be built. Building these will take the longest amount of time because there is so much to do in the way of cutting back grass, chopping down trees, clearing stones, leveling out the ground, and making it suitable for building a road.

I'm playing the game in survival mode most of the time. This means that I can only build things using the in-game tools that I can craft. It's difficult to build roads in-game using craftable blocks, because the blocks can't be rotated or tilted to create curves and slopes. I read instructions on how to use console commands to make them rotatable, but sadly it didn't work for me :( Instead, when I need to build a road, I simply switch into creative mode and use the paint tool to paint a gravel path on the ground. Personally, I like the look of this much better. It comes out looking more natural and takes less effort. For example, here is a portion of the road that I built over the island that you see on the left side of the map pictured above:

My next step is to prepare the ground for the road that I'll build, which will follow the lower line of black dots in the first map. I'm excited to start working on it but I'm also dreading how much work it's going to take!! 😟
